FAQ

A few questions answered:

Q. Am I still invited? My invitation hasn't arrived in the mail. :(
A. Yes, you are!!! Invitations were sent out Monday, 27th October. If you received a 'Save the Date', you are very invited. Please let us know if your invite doesn't arrive in the mail.
(I'm sorry I took so long to design them!!!)

Q. Are my partner and or children invited?
A. Yes!!!!! They are very invited. If in doubt - they are invited. Please bring them.
Just let us know how many guests are attending with your RSVP and any dietary requirements.

Q. How long does it take to get to the island?
A. The passenger ferry takes 25mins to get to the island and runs every hour.
The vehicle ferry takes 50mins to get to the island and runs every hour.
Check out the ferry time tables for more info on departure times from Cleveland.
Once on the island it takes approx 20mins to drive/bus from Dunwich (ferry terminal) to Point Lookout (wedding location).

Q. What if I need to buy fuel?
A. There are two petrol stations on the island:

Q. Which bus stop takes us to the wedding venue?
A. I will double check for you - check back soon.

Q. Do I need to book accommodation on the island?
A. Yes. The island ferries stop running at 6pm. So you will need to find somewhere to sleep over night to attend the wedding. I've listed a range of short stay, long stay, budget and fancy stays on the 'Accommodation' page.

If you have a big group - I highly recommend checking out Stradbroke Island Realty and booking a house together. A big house for $1000-3000 for a week could be really affordable with a group of people to stay for a whole week.

Q. Do I need a 4WD to drive on the island?
A. No! There are sealed roads and you wont need to drive on any dirt roads to make it to the wedding. If you do want to bring a 4WD though, there are beach drives and tracks that you can adventure on if desired.

Q. Can you walk from the ceremony to the reception?
A. I spent hours making that map! Understand it!!!
Yes, the wedding ceremony and reception venues are right next to each other. There is just an oval/small field between them. They are a short walk apart. There is also parking at both venues.

Q. Do I need to book a car ferry?
A. If you have a lot of stuff to bring over and want to do some sight seeing - book a car ferry well in advance! (Book it in advance due to peak holiday season!)

Q. Should I NOT bring my car?
A. Point Lookout is very walkable. You can catch a passenger ferry from Cleveland, which connects you to a bus on the island and takes you straight to Point Lookout. The buses run hourly or you can walk around Point Lookout from beach to beach, to get gelati etc. There are a few hills here and there (so maybe tricky for the older guests). We often get the ferry/bus and walk around.

You do not need to book passenger ferries. Check out the 'Getting to the Island' page for more info on ferries.

If you have a heap of stuff and are not too close to the wedding - maybe book in your car.

Q. I don't have a car. How can I get to your wedding?
A. We're sorry, it will be a bit of a journey! My sister Lucinda said it's not too bad, she's done it before on her own.
You can catch a train from Brisbane to Cleveland Station.
There is a transfer bus from Cleveland to the ferry.
Catch a passenger ferry to the island.
Jump on the bus once on the island to Point Lookout. There are a few stops along the way - depending on where you are staying.

Or you might like to hire a car. However - make sure they are ok with you taking your hire car over to the island when you book.

If you're travelling from outside of Brisbane and are having trouble getting to the island, please let us know and we can try and help set up a car pool for you to get to the ferry.

Q. Is there a taxi on the island?
A. Yes. But only one!  haha.
It is a maxi taxi though - so travel in groups!
Most of the guests are staying walking distance to the wedding.
The few of you that are a bit further away - try to book the taxi early and arrive a bit early.
On the way home - we'll try to group you up together.
More details on the 'Getting to the Island' page.

Q. Where can I get my hair and make up done?
A. There are a few places on the island...but they might be closed over the holidays. If the bride can do her own hair and make-up, so can you! It's a beach wedding, in the middle of summer. It's all going to melt off anyway.

Q. Explain your dress code in more detail?
A. The weather will be very hot. Please don't wear closed in shoes and suits and ties or heels. It's a casual island party vibe. If you want to dress in the theme of things, wear something a bit tropical, like a Hawaiin shirt or summery dress. Mostly, just dress cool and comfortable. If you can't stand the idea of wearing a bra in the heat. Just wear a sarong. Wear a coconut bra. We don't care. Wear thongs. Wear no shoes. It's ok.
I'll be wearing a wedding dress though.

Q. Is the ceremony on the beach?
A. Yes, the ceremony will be on the beach. Take your shoes off (or wear thongs if the sand is too hot.)
We'll try our best to keep you all cool and hydrated. Please don't get heat stroke.

Q. I want to sit next to my best friend.
A. Well you can if you want - as there is no seating plan.

Q. I have all of the allergies!
A. So does the bride. There will be some dairy free, seafood free, vegan, vegetarian, gluten free options etc... so please let us know your dietary requirements. (There will also be meat, dairy and gluten available for those who really need it.)

Q. Can I leave my children somewhere?
A. There is a play ground and children are welcome to attend the wedding, but if you want a night off there are 2 babysitters on the island. These two were recommended in the Stradbroke Island weddings information booklet.
Babysitters:
Tami Bass - Lady Birds & Dragon Fly's Childminding -  (07) 5433 0575
Naomi Henny - 0418 841 227

Q. Is there much phone reception?
A. Not a heap. If you are with Vodafone or some crappy network like me - you will only get reception at Dunwich/ferry terminal area. Sometimes a bit of luck at the Point Lookout shops, where you get gelati/lookout etc...
If you are with Telstra land Optus have much better coverage.

Q. What if there is an emergency or I am sick?
A.  I've listed general services including emergency and medical here: http://shaneandemilysislandwedding.blogspot.com.au/p/important-contacts.html

Q. Is anyone else staying for a whole week?
A. Yes!! We are!! And lots of other people too. If you can stay for a holiday - we'd love to swim and gelati with you. xoxo

Q. Do I ever need to look at this website again?
A. Have another look 2 weeks before the wedding - we might put up some more info that we've forgotten or some group activities for anyone staying longer than the wedding.
